Know all men by these presents that James Henthorn of the county of Ste. Genevieve and Territory of Missouri, am seized in fee of part of a Tract of Land containing the quantity of three hundred acres (be the same more or less) situate-lying and being in Union township, Fayette county and state of Pennsylvania which said tract or parcel of Land is bounded as follows, to wit, on the northwestern side by the land formerly occupied by John Henthorn, on the North East by the land formerly occupied by the Widow Murphy, on the east side by land formerly occupied by Wm. Campbell and on the south by lands formerly occupied by Samuel Kendall - be the same bounded as it may - it being the same tract and parcel of land - descended to me as one of the legal heirs and representatives of same James Henthorn Senior, deceased -

Now know ye that the said James Henthorn and Dorcas my wife, have made, constituted and appointed by these presents do make constitute and appoint John Henthorn of the County of Monongahela, and state of Virginia, our true and lawful attorney, for us and in our names to lease, let, sell or demise in any wise appertaining and belonging to such person or persons, and for such a term, or number of years, and all, and under such yearly, or other rents as he shall see fit, or otherwise to sell and dispose thereof, either for life or lives, or to sell, grant and convey the same absolutely in fee simple. For such price or sum of money; and to such person or persons as he shall think fit and convenient; and also for us - and in our names to seal, execute, and deliver such deeds, conveyances, bargains and sales for the absolute Sale or disposal thereof, or any part thereof with such clauses, covenants and agreements to be therein contained as our said Attorney shall think fit and expedient; Hereby ratifying, confirming and allowing all such lease or leases, deed, conveyances, bargains - or sales which shall at any time hereafter be sealed and executed by our said attorney, touching or concerning the premises.

Whereas the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania did by Patent hearing date the twenty seventh day of Dec in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred and ninety nine grant unto David Jennings a certain tract of land situated in Union and Menallen Twsp. in Fayette co. & commonwealth of foresaid containing fifty four acres of land called (Fear Tax) also one other patent for a tract of land adjoining the former called (Southhamption) clearing date the first day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety two---

---Now this Indenture Wineforth said David Jennings and Mary Jennings his wife for and in consideration of three hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand will and truly paid by George Ebert Merchant of Uniontown the right whereof is hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained and sold and by these present do grant bargain sell release and confirm unto the said George Ebert his Heirs and Assigns the following described piece or parcel of land and premise being apart of the two tracts before described (To Wit) Southhampton and (Fear Tax). Beginning at a hickory tree in the line of George and Jennings the line running by George Ebert's land north twenty four degrees East fifty three perches to a post by the south side of the great Wad Thencer.. North sixteen degrees and a half East sixty nine Perches and eight tenths to large white oak stump corner of John Woodwards land thence by the same north seventy one degrees and a half west forty six perches and three tenths to a post thence by land of said David Jennings South four degrees east. One hundred perches to a post south nine degrees west. Thirty one perches and one tenth to Hickory, the place of beginning containing Seventeen acres and sixty eight perches of land strict measure with the principle and appurtenances there unto belonging as in any wise appertaining.

To have and to hold the before described tract of land of prunyes unto the said George Ebert his heirs It Assigns. .o.ery to the sale judgment ... Mortgage to incumber approved and aproved I think sufficient title thrust

In witness where of the granting have hereto set their hands and affixed their seal the seventy sixth day of April in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fourteen.

This indenture made this second (?) day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen between William Henthorn son of James Henthorn of the county of Ohio and State of Virginia of the one part and Robert Gray of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said William Henthorn for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and ten dollars to him in hand paid by the said Robert Gray before the ... and delivering of those presents the weight whereof is hereby acknowledged Hath given granted bargained sold ... and confirmed and by these presents do give grand bargain ... ... and confirm to the said Robert Gray and his heirs one parcel of land in the county of Ohio and state aforesaid containing seventy three acres one half and twenty perches which was the property of the heirs of Susannah Henthorn deceased which they the said heirs hereby bind themselves to relinquish their rights and claims to the aforesaid tract of land and for that purpose hereunto subscribe their names and affix their seals to wit Stephen Burkam and Sarah his wife; William Shepherd and Mary his wife; James Henthorn and Elizabeth his wife; and Mathew Howell and Rebecca his wife, and jointly and finally bound to ... ... their right to the aforesaid tract of land which is bound as followeth ... Beginning at a long ... tree and running (?) North seventy three and one half degrees, West one hundred and sixty poles to a branch joining land of James Henthorn, then South twenty nine degrees west (?) seventy five poles to a ... oak joining land of Wm Stephenson thence South seventy three and one half degrees East one hundred and sixty poles to a Lignon tree thence North twenty nine degrees; East Seventy five poles to the Beginning (?). With the apurtenances to the said Robert Gray his heirs and assigns to the sole use and behoof of the said Robert Gray and his heirs and the said William Henthorn do covenant with the said Robert Gray and his heirs said parcel of land with its apurtenances ... him the said Robert Gray his heirs executors adm (?) ... and ... against all manner of person or persons claiming or hereafter to claim said shall warrant and forever defend.

By these presents. In witness whereof the said William Henthorn, Fanny his wife and the aforesaid heirs and ... of ... have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals day and year above written.

OCCUPATION: Henry Wykert Parsons was a farmer.

MARRIAGE: Henry W. Parsons, 22, born in Marshall Co., VA, s/o Jesse and Lydia Parsons and Elisabeth J. Yoho, 18, born in Marshall Co., VA, d/o Lewis and Ellen Yoho were married on 4 Nov 1858 at Marshall Co., VA by David Anguish. (Source: Marshall Co., WV, Marriage Book 2, p. 317 - furnished by T. Vernon Anderson) The marriage of this couple is recorded in both Marshall and Wetzel counties. Wetzel county had not yet been formed at the time of their marriage. It was formed shortly thereafter. At one time marriages were recorded in the OMR (Old Marriage Records) Books. Later they were recorded into Marriage Bk1 and the dates are not always the same when the two sources are compared. These discrepancies can show up in both Marshall and Wetzel county marriage records.

EMIGRATION: Between 1862/1874 the family relocated to Minnesota. Later they returned to Buffalo Creek, WV. They were back in Wetzel County, WV by the time of the 1870 census.

CEMETERY: Hayes Bates and Lowe Cemetery, Jacksonburg, WV. Headstone inscription: HENRY PARSONS; BORN JAN 10, 1836; DIED FEB 20, 1882; AGED 46 YRS. 1 MO. 10 DAYS. "For I am now ready to be offered and time of departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished by course, I have kept the faith."
