There is an issue with document formatting on Facebook.

I tried two ways of sharing a document on Facebook that didn't work well.

First, I copied obituary text that I'd extracted from a Find A Grave memorial. I made some addtions using square brackets [ ] and uploaded my file as a "Document" to a Facebook Group. This didn't work well. Paragraph breaks were inserted between text several sentences long and a one line piece of information in parentheses that should have followed immediately after the text.

Next, I tried copying the same text as a "post" to the Group. This resulted in the same problem, excessive paragraph breaks.

Here's how I solved the problem. I was working with a couple who didn't have children. There was an obituary for the wife only. I told RootsMagic to create a Family Group sheet for the couple. I saved the output as a PDF file. I uploaded the PDF to the Facebook Files area of the Group just as I have often done with Descendant Reports as PDFs.  As a result the obituary paragraph formatting appears to my liking and the PDF can be previewed online or downloaded.

Yesterday,11 Dec 2017, I created a 173-page, twelve generation, ancestor report for Michael Leek. It includes the obituary for his father, Melvin Gale Leek,who died on 2 Dec 2017.

Surnames include: Yoho, Starkey, Shreve, Postlethwait, Leek, Ice, Higginbotham, Henthorn, Edgell, Byard, Blake, Barker, Baker.

I shared the report on my Members Only group on Facebook. I am willing to share with others who agree to reciprocate.

David Bonar Descendants

I posted a report about David Bonar and his descendants to my "secret" Henthorn Group on Facebook.  I haven't been able to obtain the name of his wife yet.  The information in the report would be of interest to folks working on: Bonar, Mason, or Yoho.

What's a "secret" group on Facebook?  It's a group where membership is by invitation only. This allows me to control who has access to the work I'm willing to share. Members can see and download any reports I share in the File area of the Group.  If members are so inclined, they can also share their own work either in posts or to the File area.

I like using this method to share because it's quick and easy for me and because I don't need to remember Email addresses and I know who has access to my work.

Lemley and Headlee

The Lemley and Headlee families lived in the area of Mount Morris, Greene Co., PA.  There were a number of marriage between the two families

Eva Catherine Yoho, daughter of Johannas Yoho and Susanna Catherine Lau, married George Lemley, the son of David Lemley and an unknown mother.

Because of my interest in the Yoho family I also worked on the Lemley family for many years.

In the last couple of days there has been some discussion of the Lemley family on the Greene county Group on Facebook.

I'm working on a project to add information from FindAGrave to what I have about the Lemley and Headlee families.  At this point I have enough information to produce a 695-page descendant report for George Lemley and his descendants.

Henthorn Genealogy Group On Facebook

I recently posted a question on Facebook about whether I should create a Henthorn Genealogy group. The responses were positive.

Today I created a secret group called, Henthorn Genealogy. To get started FB suggested some possible members.  I asked "the other" Richard Henthorn to join because I know he has been working on Henthorn genealogy longer than me.

I think the group can serve several purposes:

• 1) it will allow me to control which Facebook members can access my RootsMagic reports, 
• 2) it will allow me to share reports from my genealogy files quickly, using the Files area, 
• 3) it will allow members to post questions, comments and files about their own genealogy interests.

Everyone who has known me for a while probably is already aware that my genealogy interests are not limited to the Henthorn surname.  I chose to name the group Henthorn Genealogy because my surname is Henthorn and I'm interested in genealogy.  Some of the surnames I'm interested in include: Henthorn(e), Hinthorn(e), Yoho, Baker, Conger, Jennings, Watson, Ice, Higginbotham, Rine Carlson/Hagstrom.

This is a genealogy experiment.  Let's see if it is useful.

Shutdown Of Henthorn Website - Google Group

Today, 1 April 2013, I closed the Henthorn Website - Google Group.

I download the Email addresses and modified the file by manually adding the Display Names everyone used to make myself a record of those who participated. All Group participants did not supply their names.

Google didn't provide a way to archive the contents of the Group. I saved the most interesting messages by Emailing them to one of my Email accounts. I haven't decided whether this information is something I might make available on the HenthornFamily Wiki.

Thanks to everyone who took part in this genealogy experiment.

Shutdown Of Henthorn Website - Google Group

Today, 20 March 2013, I sent a group Email to members of the Henthorn Website - Google Group announcing my intention to shutdown the group at the end of March.

Overtime Google modified how the group worked. In my opinion, at this time it is no longer serving our needs.

Until I shutdown the group I'll leave the link to the group in the sidebar of this page. Links to the group from my other three Google blogs were removed today.

New PDF Document

Today I posted a new PDF document to the genealogy website. The title of the document is, A Collection of Documents About Members of The Conger Family. The infomation in this 53-page document was compiled by Richard E. Henthorn and Robert Guilinger over a period of years when they worked on Conger Family genealogy together.

There is no particular order to how the documents are arranged in the collection. There's a Contents list on page two. The last page in the document is an advertisement for the program I used to generate the PDF file.

Several of the articles are of particular interest because they are about people who worked on Conger genealogy over the years.

If you are interested in the history and genealogy of the Conger family I hope you will find something of interest in this document.

To find the document go to the website homepage. Scroll down until you find the button for PDF files. Click that button. This will take you to the PDF document page. Look for the button with the title of the document near the bottom of the page. Click to download the document to your computer in PDF format.

Adam Hinthorn and Mary Audria Ogden

I posted a four generation descendant chart for Adam Hinthorn and Mary Audria Ogden to my Google Henthorn Website Group. This couple lived in McLean County, Illionis.

You'll find the chart in the "Pages" section of the group. The number of characters in each posting to AOL blogs is limited to 25,000. Therefore, rather than spend time trying to determine if something will fit here I'll just post it to the other place when I think I might exceed the limit.

If you have anything you'd like to share with others send it in an Email or attached to an Email and I will consider posting it to the Group.

Have fun with your genealogy and consider sharing with others and donating a copy of your work to one or more genealogy libraries.
