Joe graciously scanned and shared some of the biographical articles with us on the "Wetzel County, West Virginia Genealogy" closed Group on Facebook.

I like to include the information from Hardesty articles in the Note field of my genealogy file and assume that others might want to do so also. I used the Google OCR capability of Google Docs/Drive to convert some of the articles into "text" files. I proofread each file and corrected any conversion errors that I noticed.  To improve readability I added blanks lines between what I considered to be paragraphs.

As of 1 Feb 2019 I converted approximately 80 articles. I plan to share the results as individual files to the Files area of this Group. This will take place over time. As of this date, Joe continued to scan and post additional articles from the book.

If you find any typos that I missed please let me know. I always need proof reading help. You can post your comments to the Group, just be sure to include my Facebook name in the post so I won't miss the post.

OCCUPATION: Blacksmith, Gas Field worker, farmer, gristmill owner/operator, politician, self-taught veterinarian

MARRIAGE: 30 Mar 1912, Wetzel Co., WV, Bk 15, pg 273 or 275, by Rev. J.W.
Wilson (Church of Christ) at New Martinsville, WV.

RESIDENCES: From his uncle Robert E. Lee Guthrie he purchased a farm at the mouth of Pine Run near the foot of Laflen Hill. He also owned a grist mill and blacksmith shop there. This was near Hall's Mills, Proctor District, Wetzel Co., WV and about 15 miles east of New Martinsville. (Source: The Parsons-Yoho Families and Allied Lines, Eloyce (Parsons) Trader, 1990. p. 85)

BIOGRAPHY:
James Ward Parsons was 5 ft. 7 in. tall and weighed 150 lbs. He had sandy colored hair and blue eyes. Ward was known as a stern speaking individual, but he had a gentle heart. Many people who knew Ward were on the receiving end of the practical jokes he liked to play.

At one point he planned to move his family to Missouri. He sold his farm to Joseph Bland. He moved his family to is in-laws home at Alister, Green District, Wetzel Co., WV. While living with the Van Dynes he was stricken with acute appendicitis and bedridden for a month. The doctor visited him everyday during his illness. To make the visit he used a train and then horse and buggy to reach the Van Dyne's home. At the time there was a typhoid fever emidemic at the hospital in New Martinsville, making a hospital stay unwise. Because of the extensive medical bills the move to Missouri was abandoned.

Later Ward worked in the gas fields. When he had saved enough money he bought a farm on Reader Run, Green District, Wetzel Co., WV. He concentrated on the dairy and poultry business; selling dairy products to a nearby West Virginia state prison camp. MARRIAGE: Henry W. Parsons, 22, born in Marshall Co., VA, s/o Jesse and Lydia Parsons and Elisabeth J. Yoho, 18, born in Marshall Co., VA, d/o Lewis and Ellen Yoho were married on 4 Nov 1858 at Marshall Co., VA by David Anguish. (Source: Marshall Co., WV, Marriage Book 2, p. 317 - furnished by T. Vernon Anderson) The marriage of this couple is recorded in both Marshall and Wetzel counties. Wetzel county had not yet been formed at the time of their marriage. It was formed shortly thereafter. At one time marriages were recorded in the OMR (Old Marriage Records) Books. Later they were recorded into Marriage Bk1 and the dates are not always the same when the two sources are compared. These discrepancies can show up in both Marshall and Wetzel county marriage records.

EMIGRATION: Between 1862/1874 the family relocated to Minnesota. Later they returned to Buffalo Creek, WV. They were back in Wetzel County, WV by the time of the 1870 census.

I am interested in Hagstrom/Carlson, Henthorn(e) and Hinthorn(e) family history and genealogy. I also am interested in: Conger, Yoho, Watson, Jackson, Mozena.

There are many connections between the Henthorn, Yoho and Conger families in Monroe county, Ohio and in Wetzel and Marshall counties in West Virginia.

Problem: Was the date of birth, 11 Jan 1849 or 17 Jan 1849? Hugh L. Yoho has it, 17 Jan 1849 as does the author of the Richmond family book and Hardesty.

RESIDENCES: The James Yoho family lived in Belmont Co., OH.

OCCUPATION: James was a farmer and drove a horse and wagon for Alex Neff's Lumber Company in Belmont, OH.

RELATIONSHIP: Siblings, Martha Matilda and James B. Yoho married, Wesley Garloch and Sarah Ann Garloch, respectively. Wesley was the uncle of Sarah Ann. Their common ancestor was David Garloch.

DEATH: Death record at the Moundsville, WV Courthouse reads, "died of exposure and starvation near Moundsville, age 86." Found dead in a hollow on Roberts Ridge, Marshall Co., WV. He was a widower.

DEATH-CONFLICT: It has been reported that he died on 10 Dec 1934. This is in conflict with a copy of the death certificate which clearly reads, 10 Sep 1934 at the age of 86 years, 9 months, 15 days.

RESIDENCES: George W. Yoho lived on Paugh Ridge near the Antioch Church in the area of Proctor, Wetzel Co., WV. He is buried in the Antioch Church Cemetery.

Denver Yoho writes: There are two men named George Yoho buried in the Antioch Cemetery. This George Yoho was called, George Sr. to distinguish him from the other George Yoho who was called, George Jr. George Jr. was the son of George Yoho senior's cousin, Henry Yoho and Annabelle Buchanan.

Some Confusion

Denver Yoho writes: Millard Dunham says there was another daughter, Polly, who married Daniel Finch. But other reliable records show that Mary Yoho, daughter of Jacob Yoho and Margaret, married Daniel Finch. George Yoho of this family, and Jacob above, were first cousins. The Mary Yoho who married Daniel Finch is said to be buried on the George Yoho farm and this would give credence to Millard Dunham's statement. Daniel and Mary's son, Jacob Finch, married Mary Yoho the daughter of Lewis Yoho and Eleanor Cooper. There also could have been a third Mary (Polly) Yoho who married a Finch.

Sarah Yoho (mother of Alva and Elizabeth Goddard) and Mary Yoho (who married Daniel Finch) were daughters of Jacob Yoho and Margaret. All this inter-marriage may have confused Millard Dunham as he remembered his ancestors.
