Know all men by these presents that we John Henthorn and James Henthorn both of the Louisiana territory for diverse considerations and good causes to me hereunto moving having made ordained constituted and appointed my friend William Downard of the town of Union County of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania our true and lawful Attorney for us in our names and to our use to ask demand .... or receive of and from every person that is now in ...... of the Estate of James Henthorn Deceased which we are the lawful heirs of living and by these presents granting to our said Attorney William Downard our sole and full power and authority to take preserve and follow all legal courses for the recovery and obtaining of the Estate of James Henthorn deceased as we ourselves might or could do were we personally present and upon the receipt of the same acquittance and other sufficient discharges for us and in our name to make sign seal and deliver as also one or more Attorney of Attorneys under him to Substitute or appoint and gain at his pleasure to revoke and further to do perform and execute for us and in our names all and singular thing or things which shall or may be necessary trusting and possessing the promises as fulley and entirely as if we the said John Henthorn and James Henthorn in our own persons ought or could do in and about the same ratifying allowing and confirming whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do or cause to be done in and about the Execution of the ..... by virtue of these presents in Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this twenty first day of July -- One thousand eight hundred and ......seven.

The River prothomatory
(Note: Ste. Genevieve is now (1991) located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in the state of Missouri which would place it in what was at one time the Louisiana Territory. This James and John were probably the oldest of the 4 children of James Henthorn, b. Abt. 1741 in PA. Their father being the son of the original John Henthorn and Frances Low. REH)
