Henthorn Genealogy Group On Facebook

I recently posted a question on Facebook about whether I should create a Henthorn Genealogy group. The responses were positive.

Today I created a secret group called, Henthorn Genealogy. To get started FB suggested some possible members.  I asked "the other" Richard Henthorn to join because I know he has been working on Henthorn genealogy longer than me.

I think the group can serve several purposes:

• 1) it will allow me to control which Facebook members can access my RootsMagic reports, 
• 2) it will allow me to share reports from my genealogy files quickly, using the Files area, 
• 3) it will allow members to post questions, comments and files about their own genealogy interests.

Everyone who has known me for a while probably is already aware that my genealogy interests are not limited to the Henthorn surname.  I chose to name the group Henthorn Genealogy because my surname is Henthorn and I'm interested in genealogy.  Some of the surnames I'm interested in include: Henthorn(e), Hinthorn(e), Yoho, Baker, Conger, Jennings, Watson, Ice, Higginbotham, Rine Carlson/Hagstrom.

This is a genealogy experiment.  Let's see if it is useful.

Conger Query

Attention Conger Researchers

Job Conger of Springfield, IL has the Conger papers of deceased researcher, Maxine (Crowell) Leonard.  I don't know the volume of material involved.

Job is looking to pass this material on to a member of the Conger family who is seriously involved in doing Conger researcher on a long-term basis.  He stated that the person should be willing to travel to Springfield to pick up the material.

On a personal basis I hope the person who gains access to this material will be willing to revive publication of The Conger Confab newsletter that Mrs. Leonard published for many years.

There's a new version of RootsMagic available.  The link describes the new features.  There is a "free" version that you can try out, RootsMagic 7 Essentials.  The price is reasonable and you can post your tree to web space provided by the company as part of the service.

I used a version of this program when it was called Family Origins to load the GEDCOMs of others before I converted my own files from PAF.

Freepages

Here's a link to a nicely executed website on the RootsWeb Freepages of Ancestry.com.

I found the link on Facebook.  As far as I know it doesn't have information about any names that I study.  I'm sharing because it's a very good example of what can be accomplished on Freepages when someone knows what they are doing.

Projects

I'm working on some genealogy projects with my Yoho file.

Recent changes included:

• adding some Cunningham and Wiley information
• adding some Watson information
• adding Goudy information
• expanding the Henthorn, Higginbotham, and Ice information

There is more information available than I can process.  FindAGrave is proving to be a very useful resource.

WikiSpaces Is No Longer Free

I noticed that my WikiSpaces needed verification.  I followed instructions and thought I reactivated my account.

Wikispaces is no longer offering free non-education wikis

Today we are announcing that Wikispaces is no longer offering a free option for non-education wikis.

I'm sharing lots of information on my WikiSpaces account.  It turns out they didn't really mean I needed to Verify.  They meant I needed to upgrade.

Oh Good Grief! Here's what happened.  They changed the Terms of Use and it will cost $50.00 a year to keep it running.  I'm not sure there is enough traffic to warrant the expense.

Once again "Free" isn't "free."
