The earliest of my direct-line Bakers of whom I'm 99% sure is John Baker, B. 1816 OH & D. 1880 Rensselaer, IN. Has anyone been able to connect from this guy further back? My tree is on Ancest: Baker/Urton Family Tree. Contact me @ Lbakerrei@gmail.com... I think it is more of a joke to find out how many people just add unfounded information to their tree. My maternal grandmother is Lillie E. Baker (married name is Broady). She was from W. Virginia and is the youngest child of Dennis Bruno Baker, whose father was Francis M. Baker, whose father was Dorsey Baker, whose father was George Washington Baker Sr and whose father was Capt. John HOntas Baker. Capt. John H. Baker is my 5th great grandfather.

My grandmother Lillie Baker met and married Elza E. Broady in the 1930's then they moved to the Seattle WA area shortly after and started their family. It was due to my grandfather's line of work that they ended up here. My grandmother's children mostly reside in Moses Lake, WA and 1 is in England (my mother).

I'm very interested in meeting my relatives and helping to put our family tree together. Please feel free to email me at: seashellmac@yahoo.com. My line...I'm Captain John's 6th grandson. My line comes via Martin D. Baker (1780-1857) through my grandmother Daisy Degalia Baker (1876-1967). I've read a couple of differing accounts of how John Hontas Baker met his death. It would seem that the story of his death and that of his son, John Jr. have at times been confused and mixed up. John Sr. is said to have indeed been mortally wounded and taken back across the Ohio River to die. John Jr. however, was killed in 1794 at the battle of Captina Creek. I have read that it was he, not John Sr. who was mortally wounded and braced himself against a rock to await his end - only to be found later with his eyes gouged out. My sources also state that John Jr. was the one who had been urged on by his sister to do battle with the indians. I wonder which account is correct.

Would anyone in the family know where my grandmother Daisy could've ever gotten the mysterious middle name of Degalia?Silverfoxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00145313926114711682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6877911207719961409.post-75724861502081315392012-03-11T16:03:50.514-04:002012-03-11T16:03:50.514-04:00Itoo am a relative of Captain John Baker,my dads n...Itoo am a relative of Captain John Baker,my dads name was blaune Baker, his dad was George Baker,my son is John Baker Jr.I LIVE IN PENNSBORO Wv. He said the Baker captured by indians was spared by the intervention of the renegade Simon Girty. There were a number of captives & some had been tortured & killed but Baker & others were being saved for the next days entertainment. Girty came into camp & talked awhile with Baker. Baker requested Girty to try to spare him, which Girty was successful in doing.robert d bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18399122020208242800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6877911207719961409.post-9294370282090630112010-10-14T13:03:56.343-04:002010-10-14T13:03:56.343-04:00I just found your blog.
